I wish you would replace “Democrats” with “Politicians”. Politicians are guilty of numerous failings, regardless of party affiliation.

I feel like it’s an urban/rural divide thing more than a left/right thing. There’s issues in Ontario right now where they’re trying to find a spot to put a new dump for Toronto, and all the rural municipalities are telling them to sod off.

I think part of it is the majority of the tax dollars being generated comes from those urban areas. So it only makes sense those tax dollars are being spent to improve those areas. Now, that’s fine in a vacuum but when it comes at the expense of other human beings, that logic starts to fall apart (especially with all of the farms being an important industry anyways) . It’s where I start to understand those libertarian viewpoints of “stay out of my shit and I’ll stay out of yours”. The people inland/rural just have different needs than the coastal/urban and there’s not a whole lot to agree upon at that point. I don’t think it’s really the fault of Democrats, it’s moreso the will of the majority versus the will of the few. But then it goes into rabbit holes of all the other political debates that I won’t touch with a 40ft pole lol. I am still new to California but in general it seems better here than some backwards places elsewhere in the country, but I care more about civil liberties and equality than I do about economic stuff.

You see it as a D/R thing, but I think it’s a corruption thing. Bad decisions were intentionally made to fulfill personal goals.

Honestly, I don’t understand much about CA, and the mismanagement of public transit needs is up near the top.

Of course, I'm in VT. Public transit to me is a couple city busses and a free trolley making one loop in the Summer. We don't have a lot of public transit needs. But I follow other's public transit development, because I think the concentration of people into urban areas is a growing issue w.r.t. wealth inequality.

That’s a good joke. Rural areas with their massively disproportionate representation in C ongress and huge subsidies paid for by urbanites need protection...

Lol, your post will likely not be received enthusiastically by the democratic majority here. I do understand and agree with your frustration. Democrats of the flavor you have out there seem to be really big on forcing legislation “for the good of the people” onto all of the people without regard to what the people outside of their perspective need or want.

People talk about echo chambers, and all factions have them, but in some regions, it seems the one the  liberal democrats live in has superior sound insulation.

I am unfamiliar with the damn project, but I am still working on the SFPUC seismic resiliency program with the City of SF. We are winding down right now but the City has been planning these projects for a long time like 20-30 years out. This is only a part of a multi billion dollar infrastructure project.

Most of these projects were sorely needed, I can’t speak to this damn project tho. SF has been running almost all of their water supply through lock bar and riveted steel pipes installed after the big earth quake/fire in 1906. The ones I’m looking at were installed in 1928!

You could always move to an R-dominated area where rural communities are neglected and are often rotting heckholes. Try south of the Mason-Dixon, and have fun with that.  CA may be dominated by one party, but nationwide, such corruption exists no matter who is in control.

Get out of CA, it is taking years off your life.  You hate it, we see it.

I don’t understand how a project for a dam or a bridge (that will be paid for with bridge use tolls) is related to a high speed rail project.

Though with any project that requires expropriating land, there will always be some disputes.

I could see a potential issue of farmers needing to cross the tracks in a safe and convenient manner. But land not being perfectly square being an impediment to farming? Get real.

L and valuation disputes or project problems are bigger issues. But would it be any different if it was Republicans running the show?  I doubt it...  Though I’m guessing that with the current brand of Republicans, mass transit expansion would stop. Would that really be better?

I’m surprised a new dam went up in Cali. You can’t do anything water wise without invoking a ton of lawsuits or running into an endangered species.

When we lived in CT, our house (assessed value well under $200K) is taxed the same as a mid-grade $1M+ home  in Fairfield County . As a result I’m a big proponent of statewide property taxes. That’s the real source of the urban/rural divide. It’s expensive to provide good services and schools outside of an urban environment.

D/Rs aside,

I t is impossible to make everyone (or sometimes anyone!) in California happy at once , ever, with any policy change or improvement. It will always leave someone holding the bag .

It’s too big , too varied, too hard to manage, and the people impossible to please on just about everything.

Even illuminating where the money came from and where the money goes is buried under a near impossible amount of obscuring mechanisms.

If Cali proves anything it’s that the world’s fifth largest economy needs more than what any group of human in charge could give it. I doubt any party would do any better regardless of what elected intent is.

I’m trying to think of anything positive about that rail situation, and I can’t think of one. It’s only a few thousand Chinese workers away from sounding like how the railroads were built in the 1800's.

If you do move to another place, remember to just leave your neighbors alone. No matter what they do, be it leaving trash in the yard, hosting orgies, shooting guns , or God forbid, working on their cars. That’s how this shit starts. MYOB and we’ll all be fine.  It seems once New Yorkers or Californians move away from the dank hell hole they’ve created, they start creating another one.

Craziness. Dams, bridges, high speed rails, oil pipelines, gentrification, billion dollar border wall that gets defeated by a ladder from Home Depot, HOA’s, Whole Foods, rad race tracks closed and land used for home development, etc.

Meh, some move to Cali and start loathing Dems. Others move to TX then start hating Republicans lol.

Just know that you can’t complain about anything in this country because now you’ll be labeled an unpatriotic, part of a squad and told to go back you your country lolololololol :]

America is the greatest meme of all time.

But hey, major towns have all of the $billions for football stadiums because the one they had was 10 years old lol.

The problem with cities is that they hold all the people. Now, I get the notion of “one person, one vote” but if you look at the social trends, people in urban areas tend to be more easily infected by neediness, for lack of a better term. They’re so heavily dependent on infrastructure, services, mass transit, and so on, the notion of a socialist society is a pretty small leap.

OTOH, you have rural areas which, for better or worse, tend towards self-sufficiency and making their own decisions. Dems get upset when that leads to right-wing thinking. Unfortunately, that does also tend to mean they’re less forced to integrate with others, which can easily lead to bigotry. But they get it honestly, as the saying goes. Every closed-off society in history has reacted basically the same way to outsiders. It looks weird to the city folk, since they’ve been forced to interact with diverse people for a long time.

Long story short, I’m just saying that if people inside of large cities suddenly started getting a handicap for their vote (like “1/2 of a person”) I would chuckle a little. Because as much as people like to rail against conservatives, it’s the sheeple in cities who are far more prone to groupthink.
